Before your first visit to a therapist or when thinking about seeing a therapist for the first time, you might be experiencing a range of emotions, including feeling worried or scared.

How will you tell the therapist what’s wrong? What if your problem isn’t significant enough, and you’re wasting the therapist’s time?

You also may feel embarrassed and worried that the therapist will think you’re strange. Maybe you should deal with this yourself and not bother with the therapist.

 

 

 

 

Problems come in all sizes and types.

Experiencing any of these feelings is not at all uncommon. Every problem is essential!

As a therapist, I am used to dealing with all sorts of issues. No problem is too big, small, or odd not to merit a visit with me.

If your issue is affecting your day-to-day routine and is troubling you, this is reason enough to seek professional help.

I find it helpful to remember that when commencing counseling, whether it’s your first time or you’ve been before, remember that the therapist is not there to judge or criticize you.

Instead, as your therapist, I sit in the room with you as an impartial listener committed to working collaboratively to support your healing journey and self-awareness.

We will work towards your goals for treatment and make improvements weekly toward meeting those goals. A pace will be set that is realistic and obtainable for you.

Clarification and change…

Together, we will seek to clarify what’s essential and motivate you to make changes, move toward more fulfillment, and experience less distress.

The counseling I provide is an opportunity to assess where your life, career, and relationships are right now. Then, we figure out where you’d like to be.
